Wonga Park, VIC
Rejuvenating a Resort-Style Home with Safe Access, Smart Solutions, and Zero Compromise
This project involved a full restoration of a steep Colorbond roof on a large family home in Wonga Park. The property’s unique architecture, including sweeping bullnose verandas and a pergola-covered rear, ruled out scaffolding. Our team designed a tailored rope-access solution to carry out high-pressure cleaning, membrane recoating, skylight upgrades, and polycarbonate sheet replacement — all while maintaining safety and minimising impact to the surrounding environment.

Project Snapshot
Scope of Work
Roof restoration, skylight replacement, polycarbonate sheet replacement, redundant solar removal
Roof Type
Colorbond pitched roof with verandas and pergola extensions
Challenges
No scaffolding access, fall risk, weather-sensitive areas, incompatible skylight flashing
Access Solution
Fixed anchor system with rope access and fall arrest PPE
Coating System
Regent Maxi Prime water-based primer + Regent top coat roof membrane
Safety System
3Sixty anchors, AP141A rope anchors, Skylotec harnesses, 13mm static and 12mm dynamic rope
Additional Work
Bird-proofing, sealant replacement, flashings upgrade, environmental cleanup
The Situation
Roof Restoration Warehouse was privately engaged to restore the roof of a large family home in Wonga Park. The property featured a resort-style layout with sweeping bullnose verandas and a covered pergola at the rear. The roof pitch wasn’t extreme but was steep enough to make it unsafe for unprotected access.

Scaffolding wasn’t a viable option. A fall from the upper roof would still result in serious injury, and the structure of the home made scaffold installation both difficult and intrusive.

The Challenge
- Steep roof with multiple architectural features
- Unsafe for walking access without fall protection
- Redundant and deteriorating solar plumbing
- Brittle polycarbonate roof panels
- Damaged skylight flashing that could lead to metal corrosion
- Risk of overspray on rendered walls and verandas

Our Solution
After consulting with the client, a commercial building project manager, we agreed that installing a fixed anchor and rope access system was the safest and most efficient way to complete the job.
We used a secure access setup that included:
- 3Sixty fall arrest anchors
- AP141A wide-deck twin rope anchors
- LD402 fixed ladder bracket
- Skylotec twin-rope harnesses
- 12mm dynamic and 13mm static ropes
- Work-positioning lanyards and industrial carabiners
This system allowed us to safely pressure wash the entire roof with over 4000 PSI of water, remove the old solar heating hosing, and replace damaged roof screws.
We identified that one skylight had a galvanised base flashing, which would eventually react with the zinc alloy roof sheets due to dissimilar metals. We replaced it with a new skylight and compatible flashing to avoid future corrosion.
The brittle polycarbonate sheets on the pergola roof were also replaced and masked off to protect them during painting. We masked and protected the surrounding rendered walls to eliminate overspray issues.
Once preparation was complete, we applied one coat of Regent Maxi Prime water-based primer. After allowing proper curing time, we followed with two coats of Regent top coat roof membrane, applied at 2100 PSI using a Graco airless spray machine. Coverage averaged 80 square metres per 20 litres, in line with product specifications.
All painting tools and equipment were cleaned using a water-safe system, and we set up a dedicated spoil area to minimise environmental impact. The site was left clean and undisturbed.

The Outcome
This Wonga Park project shows how smart planning and the right access systems can handle complex roof restorations without disruption. With safety, precision, and sustainability in mind, we delivered a high-quality result where scaffold-based solutions would have fallen short.
- Fully restored roof with new protective coating
- Safer, longer-lasting skylight flashing
- Replaced polycarbonate panels and improved aesthetics
- All penetrations resealed for watertight protection
- No scaffolding, minimal environmental impact
- Job completed safely and efficiently with no compromise on finish
